“For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

Men, today we are not living free. We live in the greatest country in the world. Politically, socially, economically and religiously, we enjoy many freedoms that most throughout the world could only dream of. Without a doubt, we should all be grateful, especially to those who fight and work to keep these freedoms in place.

Yet, we still are not free.

The freedom I am talking about has nothing to do with politics, individual rights or social justice. The freedom I am referring to is an inner freedom of spirit. An inner confidence to trustingly embracing our true identities as men and to flourish in that truth.

So many of us are doing it. We are living fearfully apart from our hearts. Apart from our true identities as loved sons of God.

Unfortunately, it is not hard to see why. So many of us have never been introduced to the reality that God is a perfect father and draws so much pride from us for who we are not just for what we accomplish. There are a myriad of reasons why it is difficult for many of us to imagine ourselves as worthy and as being a source of the Father’s pride. Maybe you grew up in a fatherless home. Maybe you had an abusive or distant father. Maybe you had a great dad but because of your own missteps or the wounds inflicted by others, you’ve somehow lost your own sense of worth.

Whatever it is, we’ve lost sight of our true identities. We’ve lost sight that before anything else. Before the successes we are told we must achieve, the prowess we must display on the field or in the gym, the money we must accrue, the image we must portray, or the lady's heart we must win to be real men, first and foremost, we are cherished sons of a divine Father who delights in us.

“And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”” (Matthew 3:17)

Trusting in our sonship and learning how to live and thrive in it, in many ways, is the essence of authentic Christian masculinity. The road to embracing our sonship is not easy or short. It is long and requires effort, yet it is a trail we must blaze. Our manhood and our missions in life depend on it.

From the unshakeable certainty that we are loved sons of God, accepted deep in our hearts and minds, we find an alternative to the many counterfeit identities offered to us today. With our manhood anchored in truth, a renewing freedom breathes life and energy into our souls liberating us to live to the best of ourselves and to love with a virtuous masculine heart.

Libertas, through our brand and outreach work, strives to be emblematic of this hope and promise.
